Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) is colloquially known as P G Hospital is tertiary referral government hospital for the state of West Bengal and is a national research institute. It was established to train medical undergraduates, graduates, and postgraduates to become the future public health care providers, teacher and research workers.
Its mission is to organize postdoctoral courses and PhD to the successful postgraduate students. It came to encourage the development of different medical specialties in a coordinated way and to offer facilities for practical and advanced training as specialized branches.
It was formed to conduct courses for nursing in undergraduate and school level and also conducts courses on paramedical specialties.
