Currently, all the scheduled banks in India are divided into three broad sectors as per the RBI Act of 1934.
Public Sector Banks – There are 21 public sector banks and these are the ones in which more than 50% shares are owned by the Government
Private Banks – Private Banks have majorly resulted through private or foreign investments. Presently there are 21 private banks functioning in India.
Regional Rural Banks – There are 56 RRBs in India, in which the stakes are divided between the Central and State Governments, the former holding 50% of the total shares respectively.
Cooperative & Small Finance Banks – Cooperative banks are federal in nature, as these banks function at different district and state levels and mainly take care of the agricultural and farmer welfare. SFBs have sprung up after the issued guidelines for local area banks by the RBI in 1996. These banks are mainly set up to undertake smaller fund transactions, savings schemes, supply of loan and credit to farmers and other small business units, and to increase banking affairs more at remote level at low costs.
IBPS EXAMINATION2024
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), an autonomous body has taken the responsibility of the provision of complete human resources to the banking sector in India. Guided and governed by the RBI, it conducts the following examinations for the selection of best candidates.
Specialist Officers – IBPS Specialist Officers cadre falls into two categories. Scale I providing jobs at junior levels of HR, IT, Law, Marketing etc. while Scale 2 requires special skills like MBA, Post -Graduation Diplomas, Finance Certificates etc. for higher rank jobs. IBPS SO 2021 preliminary exams are going to be held in December 2021, with positions like IT officer (219 vacancies), HR/Personnel Officer (81 vacancies), RajbhashaAdhikari(69 vacancies), Marketing Officer (302 vacancies), Law Officer(75 vacancies) and Agricultural Officer(853 vacancies).
The recruitment happens through three phases Preliminary Exams, Main Exams and finally an interview process. Candidates between 20 and 30 years of age,need to apply with a fees of Rs 600 for General and OBC candidates while Rs 100 for SC/ST/PWD category.
Educational Eligibility – To apply for the IT position, one needs 4-years Bachelor’s Degree and a Post-Graduate Degree in Engineering/Technology/Electronics & Comm./Telecom/Computer Science or a normal Graduation degree with a DOEACC level ‘B” Certification;
A Post-Graduate degree in Hindi/Sanskrit to apply for the post ofRajbhashaAdhikari;
4-years Graduation degree in Horticulture/Animal Husbandry/Dairy Science/Fishery Science/Pisciculture/Agriculture for the position of Agricultural Field Officer;
A Bachelor’s Law degree for the Law Officer post;
Full time post-graduation in Personnel Management, Industrial Relation, HRD, Social Work, Labor Law etc. for the position of HR/Personnel Officer etc.
Exam Pattern – The IBPS SO Preliminary Exam for Law Officer and RajbhashaAdhikari comprise Reasoning (50 marks), English Language(25 marks), General Awareness(50 marks) questions of 125 marks while for other grades one needs to attend quantitative aptitude section of 50 marks. The mains exam comprises Professional Knowledge- Objective and Descriptive(RajbhashaAdhikari) and then candidates face the interview round where they are checked with their confidence, presence of mind, decisive abilities, general knowledge and professional abilities.
Clerk –
Clerk profile vary in banks as per different departments in banks like Accounts, Data Entry, Service, Loan, Credit Card etc. and the roles constitute Verification of Documents for bank transactions, Manning at Cash Deposit/Receipt Counters, Document Government Treasury etc. This is a basic and easy bank job to attempt and start your career in banks with a steady prospect to rise further in future.
The candidates only need to be an Indian Citizen, have a Graduation degree from a recognized College/University, basic computer knowledge, and an age limit of 20-28 years(with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST caste).
The preliminary exams include three sections of English Language (30 Marks), Numerical Ability (35 marks) and Reasoning (35 marks) of total 100 marks while the Main Exam has 4 sections of General/Financial Awareness (50 marks), General English (40 marks), Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (60 marks) and Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks) of total 200 marks and 160 minutes. There is a negative marking of -0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
The Banks Clerk Exam takes place towards the end of every year and is expected to begin its online applications from September 2021 onwards. Vacancies expected are approx. 7000 this year. The salary ranges between Rs 18000 to Rs 21000 for this position.
Probationary Officer –
IBPS offers a prestigious and direct alternative to candidates to join banks directly in the position of Assistant Manager and work in Administration, Banking, HR and other sectors in a managerial role. These officers are supposed to be under probation and training upto a period of 1 year from the time of their recruitment.
IBPS PO Exams for the year 2021 has been declared and application forms released in August 2021. The IBPS CWE-IX PO Prelims Exam is scheduled in October 2021. IBPS started its Common Written Examination in 2011. The Preliminary Exams comprise Objective Test of 100 marks including English Language (30 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (35 marks), Reasoning Ability (35 marks) whereas PO Main Exam is of 200 marks and majorly includes English Language (40 marks), Data Analysis and Interpretation (60 Marks), General Awareness (40 Marks), Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (60 marks). The Interview Round carries 100 marks and mainly checks a candidate’s communication skills.
RRB Officer –
RRB is a lucrative alternative for rural candidates as this provides them an opportunity to apply for Assistant and Officer ranks in the Regional Rural Banks. IBPS RRB PO Exam 2021 has conducted its prelims in August 2021 and Main exam will be conducted on 22nd August 2021. There are altogether 8354 vacancies this year which combine Agriculture/ Marketing/ Treasury Officer posts Scale I, II & III and Office Assistant posts. The prelims and main exams follow a generic pattern of 100 and 200 marks. Candidates aged between 18 and 30 years can apply for the position of Assistant Manager Scale I, 21 and 32 for Manager Scale II and, 21 and 40 years for Senior Manager Scale III.
