One of the most demanding careers nowadays, that Indian students are largely opting for. To start with, let us know what the few broad sectors are, that, you may get into with government jobs in Pharmacy as your primary subject. With health and hygiene being the two most important concerns in our daily lives, men are being increasingly dependent on medicines, and that is where, the need for good, expert pharmacists arises- one who would understand the medical probabilities, have the technical knowledge to get government jobs and also possess the ability to explain them to patients in a well-versed manner.

 

 

Pharmacist Vacancy 2024

Recently Drug Information (DI) has become a subject of higher significance is being studied by researchers on a serious note. With increasing formulations, drug information is an amalgamation of various data and resources which need to be further assessed, evaluated and derived by expert professionals. Pharmacists hold a greater opportunity having prior knowledge and experience, and can therefore easily get into this field.

Though the world has realized the rapid change in health sectors, the pharmaceutical sector in India has still grown at a much slower pace. There is a shortfall of skilled pharmacists at each Community Health Care and Public Health Care level, and Government is taking initiatives to come up with more vacancies and creating new opportunities to scale up this sector and also make more candidates interested to pursue this as a career.

Few jobs you may easily choose after studying with Pharmacy

• Clinical/Hospital Pharmacist 

Among the major opportunities that one may often and easily prepare for is hospital or clinical pharmacy, where candidate may find various vacancies coming up in Government clinics, hospitals and diagnostic centers where their job is to fill the prescriptions, verifying instructions from different doctors and physicians, instruct patients, take care of basic first aid, medical shots, vaccinations. 

• IT/Technician/Supervisor/Assistant Pharmacist

This is a broad category including various tasks from Medical Device Management of critical medical devices in surgery units and diagnostic clinics to supervisory roles in laboratories as well as assisting head pharmacists. One is also required to ensure proper compounding, managing pharmacy financials, maintain pharmacy inventory units.

• Professor/Trainer/Lecturer

This is a different alternative to the conventional career of being a pharmacist. In case one loves to teach or wants to become a professor or lecturer, this is a more lucrative and less competitive option to choose as resources getting into this sector are still very less in number. So one may opt for teach in medical colleges and universities or become guest lecturers and faculty in different test laboratories by clearing different entrance tests after passing out with pharmacy.

• Para Medical Jobs

RRB or Railway Recruitment Board, CISF, etc run exams for different para-medical job positions like Emergency Care Assistants, Ambulance Staff, Staff Nurse, Health & Malaria Inspector, Lab Assistant & Superintendent, ECG & X-Ray Technicians, Dialysis Technicians, Dieticians, Optometrists, Physiotherapists, Radiographers etc.  and beginning salary after the pay-scale revision by 7th pay commission has gone up to Rs 6 lacs per annum. A pharmacy degree holder can easily apply for these positions.

• Medical Coder

Although one needs additional knowledge in medical terminology and needs expertise in medical topics like ICD10, CPT, HCPCS, etc, however, a basic degree in Pharmacy makes it a lot easier to choose lucrative jobs of a medical coder. Pharmacists have good medical knowledge, and also have skills in Anatomy and Physiology which are pillars to start medical coding. One needs to become a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) to start practicing as a Medical Coder.

• Drug Discovery &  Development

Pharmacy in modern times has been established as an integral and unavoidable part of Drugs and their Molecular Designs, Clinical Evaluation, and Relevance in curing of critical illnesses. In case you are inspired by Alexander Flemming who was known for his excellence in medical and chemical research and wants to get into discovery science or drug development, you may find yourself applying for the post of Research Officers in different medical councils. 

• Ph.D./Research

Pharmacist inputs are considered to be of great importance and are therefore made part of important research teams. Their investigation and cognitive inputs enable Organizations to make crucial decisions and also allow resources to pursue further excellence through higher doctorate degrees, new research, and scholar positions. Indian Council of Medical Research or ICMR, and much similar organization in Yunani, Ayurveda and Alternative Medicines float different vacancies like Junior Research officers, scientists, Research Co-ordinators at different times of the year to absorb talents in this field.

• QC/QA/Formulation

This is one of the most vital roles contributed by Pharmacists among all the business segments. Such roles demand to maintain and improve quality standards by conducting and coordinating audit reports, understand packaging measures and procedures, have proper knowledge of Goods Manufacturing Practice. The Pharmaceutical Department of the Government of India promotes regulatory practices and codes and also offers different positions for skilled pharmacists to be a part of QA/QC audits and also plays a major role in medicinal formulations.

 

Pharmacy Jobs, salaries and eligibility

With only a few among the vast scope of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals mentioned above, few may be chosen only by pursuing a diploma after 10+2, or after a graduation degree in B. Pharma, while many others need further certifications and professional experiences.

With Government running new medical camps and campaigns for better health, immunity, hygiene and lifestyle of its citizens, it consequently comes up with different positions to fulfill the need of skilled activists in these campaigns. Pharmacists are also holding good positions in government NGOs, social welfare societies, Community programs, Trusts, Schools and Colleges.

Programs and Welfare groups formed like National Rural Health Mission, National Urban Health Mission in each state together constitute an immense chunk of the national employment that promises prospective jobs to degree diploma holders in pharmacy. Apart from that, the bulk requirement of staff nurses and Medical Representatives is also another addition to the list.

The salaries of Freshers with good planning and preparation may begin at 25000 INR per month and go up to 45000.

The Indian Council od Medical Research (ICMR), Central Institute of Medical and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Regional Medical Research Centre NE Region (RMCNE), Rajendra Mohan Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRI Patna), Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Research Institute of Medical Sciences (Imphal), Institute of Medical Sciences BHU, Medical Colleges and Universities in each states are few deputed Organizations apart from the Defence and Railway boards that come up with new vacancies and opportunities from time to time.
