This UPSC prelims Syllabus focuses on the General and Societal awareness which is tested by MCQ (Object type) questions. It is much more comprehensive stage which compromises Nine Theory papers.2

This CPSC exam is conducted in Three Phases:-

Phase 1:-Civil Service Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

This exam is composed into two components they are

  1. General Studies
  2. CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test)

UPSC Prelims Syllabus:-

Syllabus for General Science(Prelims paper I):-

  • Current events of national & international importance.
  • History of India & Indian National Movement.
  • Indian & World Geography.
  • Indian Polity & Governance.
  • Economic & Social Development.
  • General Issue on the Environmental Ecology & Climate Change (Which don’t require subject knowledge on the General science).

Syllabus for CAST (Prelims Paper II):-

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Communication skills
  • Logical reasoning
  • Analytical ability
  • Decision-making
  • Mental ability
  • Basic numeracy 

Phase 2:-Civil Service Mains Examination (Descriptive Type)

Only after qualifying the UPSC prelims Examination the candidate is allowed for the Civil Service (IAS) Mains Examination. The main aim of this examination is to test the candidates Academic Talent and the ability of performance.

In the UPSC Mains exam there are two types of Qualifying papers they are:-

  • Any Indian Language Papers
  • English Language Papers

UPSC Mains Syllabus:-

General Paper -I

Based on any type of Essay writing

 

General Studies -  I

Based on Indian Heritage & Indian World Geography

General Studies - II

Based on Constituency, Governance,  political, Social Justice & International Relationships

 

General Studies - III

Based on Technologies, Economic Development and Social Disasters.

General Studies - IV

Based on the Ethics, Integrity and the Aptitude

General Studies - V

Optional Paper -  I  

General Studies - VI

Optional Paper -  II

 

Note - Optional Paper means which includes Literature of different languages.

Phase 3:- Personal Interview (Personality Test)

  • If the candidate qualifies in the CSAT (IAS) Mains Exam then only the candidate is allowed to for the Personality Interview.
  • The Main Theme of this Interview is to check the Personality suitability of the candidate in the Civil Services.
  • This interview is mainly depending upon the Candidate mental qualities and the analytical ability.
